The T2 Mast Raising/Lowering System

Trailer sailing isn't much fun if takes too much time and effort to get your boat rigged for sailing. That's why the T2 is designed to simplify setup and breakdown. If you can turn a winch handle, you can single-handedly raise the T2's 35' mast - with confidence and speed. Every trailerable sailboat should make life this easy!

The T2 has a series of 4 "A" frames which support the 35' mast as it pivots up or down. There's no tendency for the mast to move from side to side and the "A" frames take much of the load, so all that's needed to raise or lower the mast is a single line going back to the winch. The mast is fully supported, so you can pause at any time. Low bridges or power lines are no problem with a T2. You can lower and raise the mast on the water with the genoa and main sail still on!

Raising the Mast
To raise the T2's mast, take the control line from the mast base to the winch and start turning. The forestay (including the roller-furled genoa) rests neatly controlled on a fork at the base of the mast. As the mast goes upright, the flared base guides the mast into position where two catch bolts prevent the mast from moving forward. Simply attach your fore-stay, boom, and sails. The rigging stays attached, so there's no need to re-tension after the mast is up.

Lowering the Mast
To lower the mast, take the control line back to the winch and tighten. Remove the pin holding the forestay and give a slight pull on the back stay. The base of the mast will start to lift and project forward. Continue enabling the mast to lower by simply easing the line out until the mast is completely down. Not only is it easy to lower the mast - but the system brings that mast down to a trailering position - complete with a support arch on the stern. Unlike a gin-pole system, there's no need to haul the mast forward after lowering it. Save your back with a system that makes lowering the mast as easy as easing a line off the winch! The system even includes a flip-up mast support so that with the mast lowered, all that's left to do is secure the stays and insert a support for the forestay.
